基督教是目前美国最大的宗教，超过75%的美国民众自认为是基督徒，包括50%多一点儿的新教徒、大约23%的天主教和大约2%的摩门教徒。
但是其他的美国民众呢？在美国西部绝大部分州，佛教是除了基督教之外的最大宗教。有20个州，主要在中西部和南部，伊斯兰教是除了基督教之外的最大宗教。在15个州，主要在东北部，犹太教是除了基督教之外的最大宗教。印度教在亚利桑那州和特拉华州是第二大的宗教。在卡罗莱纳州南部，有很多的巴哈伊教的信徒。
所有这些数据来源于美国宗教统计协会2010年的数据。它每十年进行宗教调查。
