Sharing My Gratitude and Story: Thanking the Compassion of Buddha

During the Spring Festival, the DAMI video production team—DAMI Studio—meticulously crafted the Buddhist learning documentary series “Real People Real Stories”, releasing its first episode on February 26, 2015. This premiere featured the story of Lay Buddhist Yang Lin, who narrated her journey of recovering from recurrent myelitis and reclaiming her life through Buddhist practice. With heartfelt sincerity, Yang expressed her deep gratitude to the Buddha and Bodhisattvas.

Yang was diagnosed with myelitis in March 2012. The recurring episodes and increasing complications brought devastating impacts on her work and personal life, dragging her family and relatives into turmoil. With no effective treatment available, Yang endured immense physical and emotional suffering. At the brink of despair, she was introduced to DAMI by a colleague and began learning Buddhism. Initially seeking temporary solace, she soon realized that her suffering stemmed from karmic consequences. This understanding prompted Yang to reflect deeply, resolve to sever ties with her past misdeeds, and gradually transform her mindset and awareness.

During the 2013 Bathing the Buddha Festival, Yang captured rare auspicious phenomena in photographs. This divine blessing strengthened her resolve to persist in Buddhist practice despite any challenges. She vowed to continue her studies unwaveringly, no matter the difficulties. Yang discovered that Buddhism not only reveals profound truths but also offers methods for repentance and correction, paving the way for altering one’s fate and sowing seeds of true liberation and happiness.

On July 29, 2013, after just over six months of practice, Yang returned to the hospital for a check-up. Remarkably, her myelitis had completely healed, and her spinal canal was restored to normal. Even her longstanding uterine fibroids showed signs of recovery. Guided by the Venerable Master, her dedication to repentance and self-improvement transformed her once critical health condition into a path of healing and inner peace.

“As conditions aligned, the illness that once terrified me became my teacher, guiding me to encounter the Dharma and join the Buddha’s great family. I am now the happiest person in the world! Thank you, Buddha and Bodhisattvas! Thank you, the supreme healer who saves sentient beings!” Yang’s words resonated deeply.

The episode received an overwhelming response, moving many viewers to tears. Messages poured in, congratulating Yang Lin on her renewed life. Over the past two years, everyone at DAMI has witnessed her remarkable transformation—from a quiet, fragile patient to a vibrant, resilient, and healthy individual who inspires those around her. What once was a challenging journey has blossomed into a path of hope and confidence.

Yang’s story has touched countless lives, demonstrating the authenticity and transformative power of Buddhist practice. This documentary format has also been widely appreciated for its accessibility and meaningful impact. Many lay Buddhists expressed their willingness to volunteer and contribute their talents to future episodes.

Similar stories abound within DAMI. From an elderly individual recovering from a severe patella fracture in just 40 days to miraculous recoveries from cancer, or even surviving life-threatening accidents unharmed—such experiences are a testament to the power of the Dharma.

The DAMI Studio is committed to continuing this meaningful work. Stay tuned for the release of the second episode in the series.
