Healing Through Faith: The Detox Phenomenon in Buddhist Practice

On October 18, 2012, DAMI established an online platform for Buddhist study, providing opportunities for more practitioners to engage in learning.
Through practicing Buddhism, many people experienced a phenomenon of bodily detoxification. This often manifested as “spots, bumps, or rashes” appearing on the skin. Interestingly, these occurrences aligned with meridian pathways and acupuncture points as depicted in traditional Chinese medicine. Alongside these manifestations, individuals reported improved physical and mental well-being: illnesses diminished or disappeared, physical fitness improved, and mental states brightened. These marks naturally emerged and faded without leaving scars. We refer to this occurrence during Buddhist practice as the “detox phenomenon” or “Buddhist detox.”
Why does practicing Buddhism lead to the expulsion of toxins from the body? Buddhism elevates one’s awareness, fostering righteousness that drives out negativity. Consequently, toxins within the body lose their grounding and seek to exit. They are expelled along meridians and acupuncture points, surfacing on the skin as a visible manifestation of deep healing.
To present this phenomenon clearly, we included photos of detox manifestations submitted by practitioners. However, some who viewed these images misunderstood, questioning whether they were signs of a skin disease.
To address these concerns, our research team conducted a specialized analysis to distinguish detox manifestations from skin diseases. Here are the differences:
- Improved Well-being: After detox, individuals exhibit enhanced mental and physical health, unlike skin diseases.
- Natural Healing: Detox signs disappear naturally without medication or scars, whereas skin diseases require treatment.
- Specific Locations: Detox spots often align with acupuncture points or meridian pathways, unlike skin diseases.
- Correlation with Internal Issues: The color and location of detox points often relate to internal illnesses, which is not the case for skin diseases.
- Spiritual Context: Detox occurs during sincere Buddhist practice, a condition unrelated to skin diseases.
Thus, all documented cases of detox in our study were carefully verified and are not to be confused with skin diseases.
Some individuals may find the images unsettling or consider them unattractive. However, as researchers, we adopt a scientific perspective. Rather than viewing these manifestations as unpleasant, we regard them as a testament to healing—a beautiful transformation, a victory over negativity, a renewal of health, and a profound reconstruction of life.
Each detox point reflects deeper issues. Why did detox occur at this particular spot? To which meridian or acupuncture pathway does it belong? What behaviors led to these blockages? Practicing Buddhism encourages self-reflection, correcting actions misaligned with natural bodily functions. By fostering proper life values and understanding, we align ourselves with the principles of health and vitality.
Behind every detox point lies immense effort, perseverance, and guidance. When we engage in Buddhist practice, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as past mentors, assist us. By earnestly following their teachings with gratitude and sincerity, we achieve health and make steady progress on our spiritual journey.
The diversity of detox manifestations reveals the frightening reality of toxins accumulated within the body. Yet, through Buddhist practice, these toxins are expelled effortlessly and joyfully, alleviating disease without pain. This not only benefits individuals but also contributes significantly to the medical field, reducing healthcare costs and easing suffering for countless people.
According to scriptures, it typically takes three years of uninterrupted Buddhist practice to experience detox. Yet, at DAMI, detox can occur within days—a truly extraordinary phenomenon!
